On Saturday the 9th of December 2023, the lady who won the Miss Nigeria 1965 beauty pageant, Anna Eboweime, celebrated her eightieth year in this world.

in 1965, the lady from the then Mid-West state in Nigeria, won the title of Miss Nigeria. She was the second lady from that region of Nigeria West Africa to win the title.

Eboweime also made history being the first ever lady from her home town, Ohomuora, to win a beauty pageant title. Since her win, four other ladies from her area have borne the title of the most beautiful woman in the country.

Anna Eboweime now Mrs Ode lives in the United States of America and Nigeria.

It was a double celebration for the family, as her daughter was a year older on the same day.

Ladies and gentlemen, these were brave women. They were on the national stage at the time when women were scorned and even disowned for taking part in beauty pageants.

We are honoured to have some of these pioneers still in our midst. And she is alive to witness families and society supporting beauty pageant contestants.
